Navigating Neurodiveristy Together

This group aims to provide a compassionate community that empowers parents of neurodivergent children by giving them practical strategies and tools, enabling them to confidently navigate their unique paths. The Bright Minds Parent Group is a six-week virtual series.

Our focus will be on the following areas:

  • Self-Awareness and Values: Parents will explore their personal values and how these values translate into their parenting actions. This includes fostering self-compassion and understanding themselves better as individuals and parents.

  • Structure and Routine: The group will delve into establishing effective routines and expectations, defining observable behaviors, and problem-solving obstacles that hinder consistency.

  • Emotional Regulation and Coping: Participants will learn about emotional dysregulation, common triggers, and practical tools for emotional regulation and coping skills, with a focus on distress tolerance and managing rigidity.

  • Communication and Relationship: The group emphasizes fostering open communication within the family, modeling healthy emotional expression, and developing assertive communication skills, while also considering developmental appropriateness.

  • Technology and Values: The group will address the complexities of electronics and internet use, aligning family values with technology habits, promoting responsible digital citizenship, and navigating privacy and parental control.

  • Parental Wellbeing: Addressing parental burnout is also a key component of the group.

This group is co-facilitated with Mary, Dominguez MST, BCBA, a board-certified behavioral analyst with 20 years of experience working with neurodiverse children, adolescents, adults, and their families to support their individual needs.
